Ladders are most noticeably used throughout the construction industry to gain access to areas such as scaffold or platforms that are at a height. Usually, throughout the site, there are various areas that may be restricted. This could happen because the area is dangerous, contains incomplete scaffolding and many other reasons, however, implementing such restrictions within normal working conditions is very difficult.
Most construction sites have a point where a trespasser enters the site, to gain further unlawful access by climbing ladders. The UK law currently states that trespassers should be protected from being exposed to such hazards and therefore need to take the relevant steps to enforce this.
Some ways used on these sites include;
Removing the ladders from the site completely which wastes time and significantly increases the chance that, at some point, the ladder may become unsecure because of its constant moving and replacing. Boarding a ladder which means lashing a scaffold board to the ladder rungs to render it unusable. This method is not an ideal way simply because the board is typically only tied to the ladder and can therefore be easily removed by either cutting it off or by undoing the knots.
